How We Use Dental Fillings in Cypress, TX
Dental fillings are designed to fill in areas of the tooth where decay is present. A tooth filling helps to provide strength and structure to a tooth that has otherwise been compromised by decay.
Fillings are simple procedures done in-office at your convenience. The most common filling type is composite resin, which is tooth-colored in appearance. Because we can color-match the resin to your tooth, the filling will be unnoticeable and blend seamlessly with your natural tooth.
Why Do You Need Dental Fillings?
Dr. Logan recommends dental fillings for her Cypress patients for any of a variety of reasons. An examination of the teeth, as well as a series of x-rays, can help to determine if you need one or more tooth fillings.
The most common reasons why our dentist would recommend a filling include:
- There is decay present in one or more teeth.
- You have deep grooves and fissures in your teeth.
- A tooth has a small crack, break, or fracture.
If you think you could benefit from a tooth-colored dental filling, call our Cypress dentist, Dr. Lori Logan, to schedule a convenient appointment so she can help you.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Fillings?
Dental fillings are essential for people who have cavities in one or more of their teeth. The filling itself is designed to keep the tooth strong to prevent further problems.
Tooth fillings are long-lasting and durable, with most patients having fillings in their mouth for upwards of 10-20 years. It is not uncommon for patients to want older metal fillings replaced with tooth-colored composite ones.
What’s the Process for Getting Dental Fillings?
First, you will receive anesthesia to numb your mouth and make the procedure more comfortable for you. Dr. Logan removes the decay present and creates an area into which she will place the filling material. A special bonding agent is applied to the cleaned-out area of the tooth and the composite resin placed inside.
The filling is then smoothed into place and cured and hardened with a bright blue light. You will be given aftercare instructions to follow after the procedure is complete. With conscientious care, including proper hygiene and routine dental visits, you can expect your filling to last for many years.
