Why is porcelain an ideal material to use for veneers?

veneers Cypress TXVeneers are very thin, tooth colored shells that are permanently cemented to the front of teeth that suffer from some type of cosmetic malady. The majority of veneers are made from porcelain providing many advantages such as:

Stain resistance – Unlike dental enamel, porcelain resists stains resulting from the consumption of coffee, tea, cola, red wine, brightly colored foods like tomato based sauces, or foods that contain colorful dyes.

On the flip side, porcelain is unaffected by teeth whitening products so if you anticipate getting dental veneers, whiten first. Your cosmetic dentist can then match your veneers to your newly whitened teeth.

Natural in appearance – Porcelain utilizes the light reflective properties of teeth making veneers appear more like your biological teeth than some other cosmetic enhancements. In addition, porcelain can easily be matched in color, size, and shape to neighboring untreated teeth to allow for a virtually undetectable improvement.

Using porcelain means less dental enamel needs to be removed from teeth being treated.

Gum tissue is more likely to accept porcelain making rejection or intolerance less of a problem than some other materials.

Placing porcelain veneers is minimally invasive, but can correct many different dental cosmetic concerns:

Intrinsic dental stain – When other efforts to eliminate dental stain are ineffective, veneers are the conservative option to enhance your appearance.

Chipped, broken, misshapen, or uneven teeth – Porcelain veneers can cover many cosmetic dental flaws that could otherwise require years of alternative treatment. Major changes can occur in a few dental visits over a couple of weeks.

Unwanted gaps between teeth – Those spaces appear to close when veneers are applied.

Porcelain veneers provide added strength to treated teeth, they are durable, and require no special treatment to keep them looking great.

Just as it is inadvisable to use your teeth to open packages or to chew or bite your finger nails, your cosmetic dentist will strongly recommend you do not use your veneer treated teeth for these purposes as well. If a veneer should break or become dislodged, it generally requires replacement. Porcelain veneers are strong, but not invincible.

With porcelain veneers you will brush and floss daily, with the same care you have always extended to your natural teeth. Visits to the dentist every six months should help you to keep your cosmetic enhancement looking great for many years.
