Impacted Teeth Removal / Tooth Extraction
What is a Tooth Impaction and Extraction?
A tooth becomes impacted when it is underneath the gum line and cannot make its way up through the gums. Impacted teeth can cause pain, swelling, inflammation and infection. It is recommended that impacted teeth, like wisdom teeth, get removed as soon as possible. The sooner impacted teeth are removed, the healthier the entire mouth will be and the less pain you will experience.
Why do you need a Tooth Extraction?
There are several reasons why you may need to have a tooth extracted. A comprehensive examination and series of x-rays is needed to determine if an extraction is needed. Some of the reasons you may need a tooth be extracted include:
- A tooth is severely decayed
- A tooth is loose due to periodontal disease or bone loss
- A tooth is impacted and causing problems (wisdom teeth)
- A tooth poses a problem to your future dental health (wisdom teeth)
What makes you a good candidate for Tooth Extraction?
Most healthy adults who need or want a tooth extracted can have the procedure done quickly and easily. Dr. Lori Logan will perform the procedure in our office at your own convenience. An exam and series of x-rays is required prior to the teeth being extracted. Alternatives and other options will be discussed with you during this appointment.
What happens during the procedure for Tooth Extractions
You will come into the office and receive anesthetic of your choice to make the procedure more comfortable. Once the area is numb, the tooth will be extracted using a series of extraction tools and appliances. The area may receive sutures if they are needed. You will be given aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing of the area. Depending on the type of sutures used, you may need to come back into the office to have them removed. The type of anesthetic that is used will be discussed during your consultation appointment.
